The 2 day RYA Intermediate Powerboat Course provides the skills and background knowledge needed to drive a powerboat for longer distances. If you've always stayed relatively close to 'home' this course will give you the skills and confidence to carry out more adventurous coastal passages.
AIM: To teach powerboating up to the standard required to complete a short coastal passage by day.
ASSUMED KNOWLEDGE: Boat handling to the standard of the Level 2 Powerboat Handling course. Knowledge to the level of Day Skipper theory is recommended. It is strongly recommended that candidates hold a first aid certificate and a VHF/SRC operators certificate.

- Navigation
- True and magnetic bearings
- Chart symbols
- Tidal diamonds and tidal streams
- Use of pilot books
- Plotting instruments
- Lateral and cardinal buoyage
- IRPCS
- GPS, waypoint navigation,xte,sog,cog,btw,dtw.
- Use of laminated charts afloat PRACTICAL
Holders of the intermediate certificate will be capable of planning and carrying out a short coastal cruise in daylight.
